Summer starts with major fun

Okay..how did we get so lucky? We'll be at the beach today (ski-ball anyone?) before hitting the gig at Dogfish Head Brewery in Rehoboth Beach, DE later on tonight.
Then a beautiful venue tomorrow night (Sat.) right up the street in Philly. A big contrast from the night before. Oh, the yin and yang.
Both nights should be a hoot and a holler.
NEW tune unveiled tonight...can't wait to give it a try........

Gas up and go

We've just about brushed the dust off the boots from Big Noise. We're still hearing about folks listening on XPN to everyone at the festival. You never know how the music will transmit but from what we've heard people got the full dose of Angel Band. The Serafin String Quartet was an extra added bonus as was Andy from Railroad Earth, David, and Peter Ecklund who joined us on the last tune, Bless My Soul.
We're rounding out the month with a few local-ish gigs.
We'll be at Dogfish Head Brewery in their upstairs listening room on May 28. We're hoping to make this another "local" hang for the band.
Philly is the next stop for a play at a lovely small concert series place, "Psalm Salon". Intimate and limited space so check out tix early.
We look forward to seeing all y'all as we lurch into summer.
love and peace.

Well, it's finally here. We couldn't ask for a more perfect day. Still time to join us, Banditos.
We hit the stage at noon, then who knows! (www.lightupthequeen.org for ticket/venue info)
Nancy's been one of the organizers and we will be all so happy when she returns to earth.
see you soon

Mother's Day

Hey all you moms...Happy, happy day. The job you/we do is the hardest and most important one in the world.
Just back from NY at the Walkabout Clearwater Coffeehouse. Lovely group. Fab potluck. Fun git together.
We're in the homestretch on Bromberg's Big Noise in the Neighborhood (www.lightupthequeen.org). We are taking almost everything out of the trick bag for this event. We hope you'll join us..either in person or live on WXPN at noon, May 15.
love and peace.

Hey all,
We'll be heading up to visit NY state next weekend(5/8). We sure hope to start a fire at the Walkabout Clearwater Coffeehouse (y'all know, not literally)...so bring the kindling.
Then...get your tix (if you haven't already) to Bromberg's Big Noise in the Neighborhood. It's in our backyard almost and will be nothing by GREAT music all day long. Check out the line up (www.lightupthequeen.org). KILLER! We'll be starting the shebang at noon and will end up our set with a few extra musicians......!
gearing up......

Hope/Haiti

After a boatload of work Marc and Nancy finally finished up the Hope/Haiti video. It's up on youtube (just type in Hope/Haiti and we'll magically pop up). Please check it out, then tell all your friends and neighbors to check it out. We're really proud to be working with ACFFC (art creation foundation for children).

new video

Been a while, folks. Sorry we've gone rogue for a bit, but we're getting back on the bus and will be checking in with all the latest.
Marc's been getting new video on youtube.com. Hope you like the tunes. Bless My Sole is coming together with incredible artwork by Nancy's pal, Georges Valris who created the most stunning sequined "flag".
New tune in the works: Kingdom Come featuring Kathleen on lead. Think Black Crows meet Angel Band at the crossroads somewhere between Memphis and Detroit (or something like that!).
Bromberg's Big Noise in the Neighborhood is in our sites (www.lightupthequeen.org) for May 15. Walkabout Clearwater Coffeehouse on May 8...come on Westchester county!
Later Banditos

Sunday night..winding down

We have had a wonderful weekend all around. Both Studio Woodstock and Lena's were all about making music and friends. We thank all who helped get the word out.
Okay...here's the way we wind down:
midnight, hotel rooms, computers humming with ebay searching cowgirl boots.
Gotta do something fun and mindless sometimes.
love and peace and good night.

new songs

So the ink hasn't dried on the last CD (in a matter of speaking), Bless My Sole, but we're already raring to get into new tunes. Can't keep the good girls down.
Unveiling some new renditions of a Beatles' tune Sat. night.

HELP

Okay Angel Bandits, we're counting on you to help us fill up the gigs this weekend.
Studio Woodstock will be nothing but fun (Angels in a Lutheran Church...oh, my!) and a big ride up to Caffe Lena's in Saratoga Springs for a Sunday night revival. We didn't get our promotion machine cranking as well as we try to so if you all could call you friends and neighbors and tell 'em to go "all viral" on the upstate NY world we would be eternally grateful (okay, we will either way, but we'll be MORE eternally grateful).
See ya up the road.
love and peace.

Great Weekend, on our way home

Good morning all our banditos
We're about to head back home after a wonderful weekend of playing and plotting. The gigs were so much fun it's almost criminal. The plotting was all about Cd, upcoming gigs, rehearsal...the usual.
Our new booking agent, Mary Granata, is putting it into 5th gear to get the news about the CD's unveiling. Looks like July for the street release date, but we're hoping to have some copies beforehand (especially for the May 15 Bromberg's Big Noise in the Neighborhood festival).
Fully caffeinated...and we're off

Sunday, March 28, 2010

time off, but boy are we busy

Even though it looks like there's a bit of a lull we're using every minute to it's fullest (definitely the Angel Band way). The CD is nearly ready to put to bed. We've decided on the name, the artwork and the "vibe" we want to be putting out there. Nancy's working on the cover art (switching from her making peanut butter role). We're already starting to rehearse some new tunes...we've stock piled them while getting the CD under control. Marc is working on compiling some show videos into new song videos which we'll be posting...
We get together for Passover tomorrow night, then Nancy head's south to Haiti for some time before the next hunk of gigs at the beginning of April. She'll be working at the Foundation we've been supporting through bird selling (see www.artforhaitianchildren.org). Hopefully the "Hope is on the Way" video being done by the hip hop group in Jacmel will be ready for filming while she's there...more as it develops.
Meanwhile we all wish you all the most peaceful holiday filled with joy and love.

Massachusetts after St Paddy's Day

Apparently St Patrick's Day is really, really serious business in Massachusetts. Shoulda had that info before we booked at gig the day after! Even though we nearly outnumbered our audience we managed to have a killer good time at the Narrows Arts Center in Fall River.
The next night was Cambridge. Gorgeous day walking around Cambridge before settling in to one of the most important folk clubs in the country. The night was lovely on every level. We can't wait to get back there (looking like next fall if all goes according to plan).
Had a brief breakfast hootenanny at Seekonk, MA at the Country Kitchen. We ended up serenading ex temporaneously...it'll happen, folks. You never know when we'll feel a song coming on.
See you all up the road.
with love...

wacky weekend

It all started off normally enough...got in the van, everyone comfy for the ride down to Baltimore. We played this totally fun/different gig at Cellar Stage..church basement with (as the green room) an old boyscout's troop room (not old boyscouts...old room with boyscout stuff in it). We got some pics which we'll attempt to post in a bit. Suffice it to say that we now know our knots (say that one 3 times fast).
Aly, Nancy and Marc then got together at Aly's high school alma mater (Archmere Academy). They were doing a spaghetti dinner night to raise money for Haitian relief efforts. Wonderful community with plugged in kids, parents and staff. We sang a very stripped down version of "Hope is on the Way". Such a sweet night.
Getting ready to turn around and head north. Lighting candles to pray that there's NO MORE SNOW coming anytime soon.
wishing all a lovely Sunday

Sunday nite after burn

What can we say after 2 such fun gigs? Thanks to those who made these nights great. Once again we find ourselves satisfied and gratified. Too good for words.
Baltimore next!

Back in the van

you know what? Cheetos petrify after a while. How would we know you ask...back of van under the accordion case. Live and learn.
Looking forward to regrouping. Out with DBQ to Annapolis and Birchmere. Looking forward to hitting some serious notes.
see you down the road.

from Natches to Mobile

We are going our own ways for a minute (til next weekend). This has been quite a twist and turn of a run...wonderful and challenging...ending with Nate nearly clocking himself and the drama of a superglued finger (don't ask).
Bob took some great new photos of our boots that may grace the cover of the new CD. We'll try to get 'em on this blog sooner than later.
Aly's 1st year...check
Marc's B-day...check
Nancy's B-day...check.
Naptime.

snow-i-cane in Maine

I'm sure there's gotta be a song in this, but...what's a couple of girls gotta do to sing these days. Our gig in Maine (can't even begin to tell you how high the bar is set on this venue...they even have a record player and a bunch of great albums...YES, vinyl) in the dressing rooms). Apparently someone had other plans. On the other hand, what kind of sadist books a gig in February in Maine?
We will, indeed, reschedule.
We were able to make the radio show at WUMB in Boston where we sang and chatted about a new project we're working on....A rap group in Jacmel, Haiti is taking a Kreyol translation of "Hope is on the Way" and videoing the tune. We'll be editing it in with our version. What a big and little world.
love and peace from us lucky cowgirls

Sunday morning

The Flash last night was killer. That is the most fun venue...great sound system, intimate room with just enough umph to keep us cranked up. It doesn't hurt to have the place packed to the rafters either.
Little by little people are finding out about Bromberg's Big Noise in the Neighborhood festival. I'm hoping to have it sold out in a month.

Friday nite/Sat

We had such a good time at the Record Collector in NJ. I wanted the audience to join the band...that's how cool they were. There was, however, a strange thing with fezs.
Off to The Flash. We're hoping for a full house.

this weekend

We're itching to play this weekend. Got the van gassed up and loaded for bear. Nate's joining us which means WAY big fun. After the NC run this'll feel like we're just playing in our backyards (which are still, by the way looking like a really bad snow resort). SKI WILMINGTON!!!

Thursday, February 18, 2010

Levon's is a glowing distant memory after the insanity of snowmeggedon. It stopped us for a half a minute (long enough to miss out on the Johnson City gig), but made us that more determined to hit NC. We had an unadulterated ball playing and traveling. Stay tuned for road trip pics.
Looking forward to this weekend...Jersey (Record Collector) then hometown gig at The Flash.
Woo hoo

Here we are at Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble, with David Bromberg and Larry Campbell joining us. It was a sold out show and what a blast we had!! Thanks to all for coming out to see us! (photo by Barry Butterfield)

Monday, February 8, 2010

We have been overwhelmed with gratitude at the outpouring of the generous support for relief efforts in Haiti. It’s been a rare look at how everyone everywhere can come together with a common “best heart”. Now the rebuilding begins with a long, tough road ahead. We will remain strong in our commitment to keep raising funds and awareness.

Meanwhile, we are excited to be doing what we do best: sing our hearts out. We started February on a high note at a sold out Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble then we keep going from there.
Despite the wintery weather, we’re prepping to burn through February bringing our warmest A game. Please go to our tour dates to link up with us. Come on out to a gig and say hi. We’re crazy about you guys and want to keep the lines open!
